Bob Pugh opened American Automotive in June of 1991. He managed two Amoco service stations in West Des Moines for 19 years previous to that. He started at the Amoco on what is now Valley West Drive and Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. He then moved to the Amoco on what was then 74th street and is now Jordan Creek Drive and I-80 exit 121 in West Des Moines. That location no longer exists.
